Perspectives and Insights
Societies are complicated systems, and humans are creative and complex creatures with different points of view. The definition of progress is not the same for all people and every person brings to this planet his or her own unique set of circumstances, insights and opinions.
However, it seems some truths are universal. Even with opposing beliefs, disparate amounts of knowledge and patience, and controversy, there are opportunities to find common ground and solve problems that appear to be overwhelming.
In the following, you may find a new perspective or vantage point, or some new courage. A more philosophical point of view . . . strategies and solutions.

(documentary film) by James Russell
Comment: This may be one of the most important documentaries ever made. You will need almost 90 minutes to watch the entire film, but it is time well spent. Anyone using wireless devices should watch this film.
RESONANCE is an eye opening documentary which reveals the harm we are doing by existing in an ocean of man made wireless frequencies.
Two billion years ago life first arrived on this planet; a planet, which was filled with a natural frequency. As life slowly evolved, it did so surrounded by this frequency. and Inevitably, it began tuning in.
By the time mankind arrived on earth an incredible relationship had been struck; a relationship that science is just beginning to comprehend.
Research is showing that being exposed to this frequency is absolutely integral to us. It controls our mental and physical health, it synchronizes our circadian rhythms, and it aids our immune system and improves our sense of wellbeing.
Not only are we surrounded by natural frequencies, our bodies are filled with them too. Our cells communicate using electro magnetic frequencies. Our brain emits a constant stream of frequencies and our DNA delivers instructions, using frequency waves. Without them we couldn't exist for more than a second.
This delicate balance has taken billions of years to perfect. But over the last 25 years the harmony has been disturbed. and disturbed dramatically.
Mankind has submerged itself in an ocean of artificial frequencies. They are all around us, filling the air and drowning out the earth's natural resonance.
To the naked eye the planet appears to be the same. But at a cellular level it is the biggest change that life on earth has endured; the effects of which we are just starting to see and feel.

a good overview of the problems we're facing with the proliferation of wireless transmitters that has changed our environment over the last 15-20 years. Prof. James F. Tracy July 2012
" . . . The smart grid technology is being sold to the public as a way to "empower" individual energy consumers by allowing them to access information on their energy usage so that they may eventually save money by programming "smart" (i.e, wireless enabled) home appliances and equipment that will coordinate their operability with the smart meter to run when electrical rates are lowest. In other words, a broader plan behind smart grid technology involves a tiered rate system for electricity consumption that will be set by the utility to which customers will have no choice but to conform.
"Because of power companies' stealth rollout of smart meters a large majority of the public still remains unaware of the dangers they pose to human health. This remains the case even though states such as Maine have adopted an "opt out" provision for their citizens. The devices have not been safety-tested by Underwriters Laboratory and thus lack the UL approval customary for most electronics.
"Further, power customers are typically told by their utilities that the smart meter only communicates with the power company "a few times per day" to transmit information on individual household energy usage. However, when individuals obtained the necessary equipment to do their own testing they found the meters were emitting bursts of RF radiation throughout the home far more intense than a cell phone call every minute or less . . .
EMF Safety Network - U.S. applicable to Canada and elsewhere (Introduction by Rafe Mair) (Originally posted December 2011)
Introduction my Rafe Mair.
I regard most videos I get with great suspicion . . . many of them have that "Hitler is alive and well living in Argentina" look about them.
This video which has "Smart Meters" as surveillance devices, frankly, disturbs me greatly and if it is true, even up to a point, we must demand an answer not from BC Hydro - why talk to the monkey when you can talk to the organ grinder?
This and another big question arise - this is a one billion dollar exercise and not only were we not consulted, neither were our MLA's.
This is taxation - for that's what it is - without representation. Hitler may not be alive and well in Argentina but I regard this video as a message that must be dealt with. Oh, Yes . . . 'if you've nothing to hide, why are you against a little surveillance?"
The answer is that I do have something to hide . . . MY PRIVACY!"

"Our advocacy groups know that many parents and most teachers who are concerned regarding wireless radiation in school environments feel as if they have been muzzled regarding this issue.
"I can't comment on whether or not any impropriety or discrimination or harassment or other harm is intended or disregarded. I know that whatever transpires, it's a fact that there are many teachers who personally feel ridiculed and that their job security and related normal expectations are imperiled by their efforts to investigate and be prudent about these radiation exposures to school children and for reasons of workplace safety.
"It's also a fact that there are many teachers -- and children -- who are made ill by exposure to this type of radiation.
"Even if it is legal to urge and insist that teachers and parents must 'voluntarily' agree to accept the presence of a physical radiation agent in schools, and even if it is legal to insist that teachers 'voluntarily' agree to not discuss the topic of wireless radiation in schools with their peers nor anyone else (and I'm not saying whether or not such insisting is legal, because I don't know), it's certainly unconscionable to accept this approach when supposedly we all care about each other and care about children, and where certainly we live in a country where usually no one should ever feel attacked or afraid to speak up in the best interests of children (or anyone else)."

When money, politics and science intersect, America's children are threatened. Moyers and Company: PBS Bill Moyers on failure of public health.
David Rosner and Gerald Markowitz discuss how the chemical industry and its powerful lobbies prevail in blocking efforts to reform outdated laws, leaving the public afloat in a soup of toxins. And Sheila Krumholz and Danielle Brian talk about the importance of transparency to our democracy, and their efforts to scrutinize who's giving money, who's receiving it, and most importantly, what's expected.

David Rosner and Gerald Markowitz on Toxic Disinformation
Science can be a battleground -- witness the politics of climate change, the teaching of evolution, the uncharted terrain of genetic modification and stem cell research, among other contentious issues. But when industries release untested chemicals into our environment -- putting profits before public health -- our children are the first to suffer. Nowhere is this more troubling than in the ongoing story of lead poisoning.
Bill talks with David Rosner and Gerald Markowitz, public health historians who've been taking on the chemical industry for years -- writing about the hazards of industrial pollution and the neglect of worker safety -- despite industry efforts to undermine them. Their latest book, Lead Wars: The Politics of Science and the Fate of America's Children, is the culmination of 20 years of research. Markowitz and Rosner warn that, for young children, there's no safe level of exposure to this dangerous toxin still lurking in millions of homes.
The authors discuss thwarted efforts to hold the lead industry accountable, failed attempts to find cheap solutions, and the cost to the future of our children. As long as the chemical industry and its powerful lobbies prevail in blocking efforts to reform outdated laws, Markowitz and Rosner say, we will continue to float in a soup of toxins -- inhaling, drinking, and absorbing chemicals that we may learn, years later, have put us all in harm's way.
There is a corruption at the heart of American politics, caused by the dependence of Congressional candidates on funding from the tiniest percentage of citizens. That's the argument at the core of this blistering talk by legal scholar Lawrence Lessig. With rapid-fire visuals, he shows how the funding process weakens the Republic in the most fundamental way, and issues a rallying bipartisan cry that will resonate with many in the U.S. and beyond.
Sherry Turkle: TED Talk (transcript included in link)
Sherry Turkle studies how technology is shaping our modern relationships: with others, with ourselves, with it.
Why you should listen to her:
Since her pathbreaking The Second Self: Computers and The Human Spirit in 1984 psychologist and sociologist Sherry Turkle has been studying how technology changes not only what we do but who we are. In 1995's Life on the Screen: Identity in the Age of the Internet, Turkle explored how the Internet provided new possibilities for exploring identity.
Described as "the Margaret Mead of digital cuture," Turkle has now turned her attention to the world of social media and sociable robots. As she puts it, these are technologies that propose themselves "as the architect of our intimacies."
In her most recent book, Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other, Turkle argues that the social media we encounter on a daily basis are confronting us with a moment of temptation. Drawn by the illusion of companionship without the demands of intimacy, we confuse postings and online sharing with authentic communication. We are drawn to sacrifice conversation for mere connection. Turkle suggests that just because we grew up with the Internet, we tend to see it as all grown up, but it is not: Digital technology is still in its infancy and there is ample time for us to reshape how we build it and use it.
Turkle is a professor in the Program in Science, Technology and Society at MIT and the founder and director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self.
"As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefining human connection and communication -- and asks us to think deeply about the new kinds of connection we want to have. Sherry Turkle studies how technology is shaping our modern relationships: with others, with ourselves, with it."
