Education, Entitlement, E-waste and Environment: We are killing this planet, Earth (D12 Voice" . . . Some years ago, education in our schools became a follower of trends in society, economy, media (imitation of television shows about fashion, singing, dancing, etc.) and politics. Despite all the posters and symbolic demonstrations--such as for Earth Day/Week-- consumer mentality thoughtlessly advocates continued pollution of the environment under the arrogant tenet that humans have the right to use the planet's resources as they see fit. This tenet has been adopted by many institutions and organizations, as well in the educational field. "As life and learning are inseparable, I believe that education should lay the foundation in any society and culture. Education should lead the way of life and instill higher levels of thinking and higher valuation of nature and our only living space: the planet Earth. "Our economy has shifted from a focus on manufacturing industries to a focus on service industries. This transformation cost society many job losses and made a huge impact because service industries rely more heavily on retailing. As a result, this service economy relies more directly on end-user consumers. Therefore, the best way to guarantee that the service industries will continue growing and the corporations will make profit is to find ways of assuring that the end-user population is well-trained to become dependent consumers with limited consciousness of the result of their purchases. "In the name of education, we are killing this planet, we are contributing to global warming, we are officially producing e-waste and we are proud of it (the more we rely on technology the higher our score as a teacher/school)! Worst of all, we are raising a generation of dependent consumers--their sense of entitlement and their need for convenience, instant gratification and feeling good in the moment is dangerously destructive to their own environment and the future of the only home we have: Earth.

Letter to Vancouver City Council re wireless infrastructure

Concerning more rapid growth of wireless infrastructure in VancouverSent by Una St. Clair calling for public consultation and input regarding Shaw's current plan to put Carrier Grade Wi-Fi routers in a wireless mesh throughout Vancouver's public spaces. She is asking Vancouver Council to move to protect public spaces so that all people, and the natural environment, can spend time in Vancouver without being assaulted by microwave radiofrequency radiation. "We are being inundated by e-mails and calls from Vancouver residents who are strongly opposed to the Shaw plan to put Carrier Grade Wi-Fi routers in a continuous and comprehensive overlapping wireless mesh throughout Vancouver's public places - from Stanley Park to downtown to the beaches. "In discussion with a Shaw engineer this morning, I was told they have no knowledge that microwave radiofrequency electromagnetic fields are a W.H.0. Class 2B, possible human carcinogen, nor that Health Canada has issued an advisory to alert parents that reduction of wireless exposure to cellular devices is warranted at this time. You will find Parliamentary Council of Europe resolution attached - this document explains clearly the need to reduce exposure, not increase it. "I have been told by Shaw that Vancouver council and local government officials are making agreements to have these Wi-Fi routers installed on street poles, light fixtures, buildings (inside and out), literally everywhere. There is no arrangement in place to post signs on the locations of these devices, so there is no warning for people who have strong personal and health reasons and wish to avoid . . ."

Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) Clashes with Honey Bees

International Journal of Environmental Sciences - 2010"Apiculture has developed into an important industry in India as honey and bee wax have become common products. Recently a sharp decline in population of honey bees has been observed in Kerala. Although the bees are susceptible to diseases and attacked by natural enemies like wasps, ants and wax moth, constant vigilance on the part of the bee keepers can overcome these adverse conditions. The present plunge in population (< 0.01) was not due to these reasons. It was caused by man due to unscientific proliferation of towers and mobile phones. "Bees and other insects have survived and evolved complex immune systems on this planet over a span of millions of years. It is not logical that they would now suddenly die out now due to diseases and natural parasites. This suggests another factor has been introduced to their environment that disrupts their immune system. This man made factor is the mobile towers and mobile phones. The public is not being informed of the threat due to deliberate attempts on the part of mobile phone makers to mask the direct causal relationship . . ."

"Safety Code 6 is specific to EMF interaction with humans but the code excluded the frequencies or electrical parameters of biologic systems in a frequency equation . . ."I have sent a letter to B.C. Energy Minister Rich Coleman specific to the dangers and liability--there hasn't been a response to date . . . "The domino effect of Health Canada . . . [has] kept critical information from provinces as well as municipalities trying to administer their areas. "Smart Grids aren't so smart when the other wireless devices--called humans, pollinators and ecosystems--don't run at those frequencies. "BC Hydro needs to be aware of the real costs to their corporation with people being harmed . . . "A moratorium on smart meter installation is the only option until critical questions are answered."

Call of wild trumps Wi-Fi

Richmond News, B.C. (Canada)'AHHH August. Time to pack up the tent, the cooler, camp stove, the smartphone and laptop and head out into the wilderness. "Or . . . maybe not quite so fast. Although wireless Internet is being offered at an increasing number of parks across the country, a recent survey suggests many of us in B.C. are content to keep our parks off the grid. We hope it stays that way. "Parks have been around a long time, places where we go to experience "wonder, reverence, the feeling that one is nearer the mystery of things" as Canada's first parks commissioner described them. For just as long, our parks have faced threats - from logging, development interests and shrinking government coffers. Now add to that list wireless Internet . . . "Many of our most vivid childhood experiences happen outdoors. It's doubtful that an app on the iPhone will offer that kind of memory. "We're with those who still prefer to heed the call of the wild rather than the call of the Wi-Fi when we head off into nature."
